Montlake Cut Restoration Project:
The Montlake Cut Waterside Trail was built in 1971. The trail passes a 40-ft totem pole, carved in 1937 by John Dewey Wallace, a Haida chief in Waterfall, Alaska.
The Park has experienced a great deal of overgrowth by invasive plants. With a cooperative effort of the Seattle Garden Club, the Army Corp of Engineers, Seattle Parks Department, Boy Scout Troop 15, their family and friends have worked to clean up the park.
October 2008 goats from goattrimmers.com and Seattle Garden Club members worked to clear some of the debris.
During November SGC work parties worked to clear remaining invasives, cover the area with cardboard, and then cover the cardboard with chips provided by the City.
Fall 2009 the area will be uncovered and planted with native plants which will be propagated by members of Seattle Garden Club.
